The itinerary for the show

August 18, 2009

Someone just posted, asking about our itinerary. Frankly it’s a little harder than you’d think to scare up the final itin, it was changing up until the last minute. But this one is pretty close:

[My comments in the brackets -- you thought I could resist commenting?]

Dinner
Lodging at Casa Higueras, Hotel Zero, Latitude 33 Sur [Those were the three hotels, I was in Casa Higueras...room 19. The rest of the hotel is GREAT. Less expensive and clearly the nicer was Hotel Zero where Jimmy and Andrew stayed. Shira's hotel was a glorified youth hostel in a great neighborhood. ]

LUNCH at Café Turri

Rodeo or visit craftspeople making pottery, leather, lapis jewelry
Writers learn to dance the Cueca

Boat Cruise of Harbor

Dinner
Night Out – El Cinzano, La Piedra Feliz

Overnight at Hotel Rey Don Felipe [Eh, there are better hotels in Punta Arenas.]

Breakfast at Hotel Ruebens
Arrive Cerro Lodge Guido [So beautiful, a ranch that has hotel rooms. Really really charming.]

Loved it! Looked like much more fun than one horrible press trip where we literally spent 10 days in a van going up and down mountains and stayed at deserted resorts…it was the “Bus Ride to Nowhere” tour. Hope you’ll be doing more episodes…

All the people complaining about the complaining have missed the point of the show to an astonishing degree. The Travel Channel was always a great idea but a failure in practice because every show was in reality an infomercial rather than a critical expose. This show provides exactly what the Travel Channel lacks; credibility. This is what Bourdain used to do before he decided that as long as it wasn’t American it was great.
